Best Towbar Bike Rack for Family E-Bikes UK (2026): 7 Racks Compared
Last updated 23 October 2026. Prices and ratings checked on Amazon UK that day.
The best towbar bike rack for family e-bikes is one whose stated load covers two e-bikes, whose per-bike limit suits your heaviest bike, and which your car’s towbar can carry. E-bikes are heavy, so check three figures before you buy: your car’s towbar nose weight limit, the rack’s total and per-bike limits, and your e-bike’s own weight. On Amazon UK on 23 October 2026 we compared the listings for seven towbar racks for two bikes, from £194.10 to £935.22. They are listed by price, not ranked.
Quick verdict:
- Cheapest, listed 50kg total (check two e-bikes fit): the EUFAB Crow Basic (£194.10, 4.4 from 339 ratings).
- Lowest price with a listed 60kg total and tilt: the Wiltec (£264.99, 4.3 from 20 ratings).
- Most ratings, listed 60kg payload: the Atera Strada E-Bike M (£499.99, 4.3 from 2,147 ratings), which the listing says can expand to three bikes.
- Listed 60kg, five-year warranty: the Westfalia BC 60 (£589.99, 4.2 from 750 ratings).
- Thule listing with a 60kg load: the Thule EasyFold XT 2 (£716.12, 4.5 from 227 ratings), though its listing text conflicts with its specification table, so check what you receive.
- Foldable towball-mounted option, no ratings yet: the SIXTOL E-Bike 2 PRO (£935.22).

Check your towbar nose weight first
A towbar bike rack hangs its weight on your car’s tow ball, so the car and towbar have limits you must stay within. Check your car handbook and the towbar maker’s information for the maximum tow ball load (nose weight), and add up the rack and the bikes you plan to carry. If the numbers do not leave room, a towbar rack is not the right choice. Ask your car dealer or towbar fitter if you cannot find the figure.
Rack weights range from about 12kg (EUFAB Crow Basic) to 29.2kg (SIXTOL E-Bike 2 PRO), though some listings conflict, so check the manufacturer’s page; the table below has each figure. Rack weight plus the weight of both bikes must stay within your car’s maximum tow ball load.
E-bike weight limits: which racks carry two family e-bikes
E-bikes weigh more than ordinary bikes, so two things matter on a rack: the total it can carry and the most it allows for one bike. Some listings give both, some give only the total, and some give a figure that conflicts. Use your own e-bike’s stated weight, including its battery, and compare it with each limit below.
Only the Thule Velocompact listing gives per-bike figures, and they conflict: it says designated for e-bikes up to 30kg and also gives a maximum bike weight of 25kg, with a load capacity of 46kg (45kg in the specification table). Check with Thule before loading a heavy e-bike. The Westfalia BC 60 lists 59.87kg in its specification table.
A listed total of 60kg for two bikes works out at about 30kg or less per bike on average, including the battery, but the maker’s own per-bike limit may be lower. Most listings give no per-bike limit, so ask the maker if your bikes are close to the limit.

Best towbar bike rack for three or more bikes
All seven racks here are listed for two bikes. Two of the listings mention a third bike: the Atera Strada E-Bike M is described as expandable up to three bikes, and the Westfalia BC 60 lists an extension kit for a third bike. Check the total load you would reach with three e-bikes, because a third heavy bike may take the total beyond the rack’s limit or your nose weight limit. We have not compared racks listed for four or more bikes here. As a sum, a 60kg total shared by three e-bikes leaves about 20kg per bike.
Plates, lights and the law
Two sets of rules matter here: the rules for the e-bikes themselves, and the rules for carrying a load on a car. On GOV.UK, an electric bike counts as an electrically assisted pedal cycle (EAPC) if it has pedals that can be used to propel it, a motor with a continuous rated power of no more than 250 watts, and a motor that cannot propel the bike above 15.5mph. An EAPC does not need to be registered, taxed or insured. If your e-bike does not meet those rules, GOV.UK says it is classed as a motorcycle or moped.
For the car, a rack and bikes can hide your rear lights and number plate. The Wiltec listing says its rack has rear lights and a licence plate holder, and the Westfalia, Thule Velocompact and Thule EasyFold XT 2 listings mention 13-pin connections. Check the rack’s lighting and plate arrangements against your car’s towing socket. Rules on lights and number plates for loads carried on a car are set out in GOV.UK and DVLA guidance, so check there before you drive.
Driving with a loaded rack
Follow the rack maker’s instructions for fitting, loading and securing the bikes, and its instructions on checking the fixings. Several listings mention boot access: the Wiltec and Thule Velocompact list tilting, the Atera, Westfalia and SIXTOL list fold-down access, and the Westfalia says its fold-down does not work on the VW T5/T6 and Mercedes Vito/Viano. Follow the rack maker’s advice on batteries and loose accessories, and do not exceed the rack’s or your towbar’s limits.
How we compiled this shortlist
We searched Amazon UK for towbar bike racks for two e-bikes and chose seven that cover a range of prices, brands and weight limits, including Thule’s Velocompact and EasyFold XT 2. We left out the Thule Epos 2 because its listing describes a hitch rack and does not say it fits a UK tow ball. We took prices, ratings, weights, load figures and features from the Amazon UK listings on 23 October 2026, and the performance figures here are the listings’ own claims. We took the e-bike rules from GOV.UK. Ratings are shown with their sample size. Only the EUFAB, Atera, Westfalia and Thule EasyFold XT 2 have more than 200 ratings, so treat the other scores as early signals. Prices change often, so use the links to see the current price. We will update this guide when prices, ratings or availability change.
Towbar bike rack FAQs
How much weight can a towbar bike rack carry?
The racks here list between 45kg and 60kg in total, and only the Thule Velocompact gives per-bike figures, which conflict. Check the rack’s limit, your e-bike’s weight and your towbar’s nose weight limit.
What is nose weight and why does it matter?
Nose weight is the downward load your tow ball is allowed to carry. Add the rack’s weight and the weight of the bikes, and keep the total within your car handbook’s tow ball limit.
Will a towbar rack fit any car?
It needs a fitted towbar and a compatible electrical socket for the lights. The Westfalia, Thule Velocompact and Thule EasyFold XT 2 listings mention 13-pin connections. Check the socket, and note the Westfalia listing says its fold-down does not work on some vans.
Can I open the boot with bikes on the rack?
Some listings say yes: the Wiltec and Thule Velocompact list tilting, and the Atera, Westfalia and SIXTOL list fold-down access (the Atera specification table says not foldable). The Crow Basic listing does not mention it.
Do I need to register my e-bike?
GOV.UK says an electric bike that meets the EAPC rules does not need to be registered, taxed or insured, and one that does not is classed as a motorcycle or moped. GOV.UK says an EAPC must show its rated power and the manufacturer.
Can a towbar rack carry three e-bikes?
The Atera listing says it expands up to three bikes, and the Westfalia lists a third-bike kit. Check the total weight against the rack and your towbar limits.
What is the cheapest towbar bike rack for two e-bikes?
Of the seven compared, the EUFAB Crow Basic at £194.10 on 23 October 2026. Its listing gives a 50kg maximum load, so check that two e-bikes fit within it.
Can I lock the bikes on the rack?
Some listings mention locks: the Westfalia lists a single-key lock for the carrier and bikes, the Thule Velocompact includes a lock for the rack, and the Wiltec lists anti-theft protection.
Which towbar bike rack should you buy for family e-bikes?
Start with your towbar nose weight and your e-bikes’ weights, then look at each rack’s listed limits. The EUFAB Crow Basic (£194.10) is the lowest-priced option with a 50kg listed load, the Atera Strada E-Bike M (£499.99) and Westfalia BC 60 (£589.99) list 60kg with larger rating samples, the Thule EasyFold XT 2 (£716.12) has a 60kg listed load but a confusing listing, and the SIXTOL E-Bike 2 PRO (£935.22) is the towball-mounted, foldable option with no ratings yet. Check each listing’s limits, confirm the plate and lighting arrangements, and follow the rack maker’s fitting instructions.
